Today, I bought an usb fingerprint device in our near supermarket . Of course Linux support isn't advertised at all, but it was reduced from 20 EUR to 10 EUR. So I decided to give it a try and see what is driving this chip.
It is an Authentec, Inc AES2501 ( 08ff:2580 ), lsusb output looks like this: http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdescr.php?id=3444.
There seems some efford in writing a Sane backend for this device: http://gkall.hobby.nl/authentec.html. However, it doesn't look like its working yet.
I just found an other effort for writing a driver: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sane-authentec/.
For now I need to do some more research about programming usb devices. Then I can look if and how I can contribute to existing projects for the Authentec Device.
If someone else knows about other projects for this fingerprint scanner, please contact me.
